VOCABULARY

The Oxford Dictionary has over 600,000 words. The average American knows (doesn’t necessarily use) 10,000 to 20,000 words. So why did it surprise me at work today when a woman, I’m guessing in her mid-forties, asked how to spell immediately?

Not only did she make this request openly to a room full of co-workers but she followed it with “I tried all kinds of combos in Word and it just didn’t give me anything”.

I don’t know given the statistics maybe my standards are a little high.
